Welcome to  Lora's Luck Black Animal Rescue, Foster and Adoption Service.

Please read ALL of the following BEFORE you contact us.

If you need ANYTHING in LARGE PRINT here we can help. Large print version of all our info are available by using the message box below, and we are working on creating audio files too! 

If you need help understanding our information then you may need someone to help you. This is called a ‘proxy’ and while we try to explain things the best we can from our end, you will need someone to support you at your end too with all the legal forms and other documents. This can be a family member or friend, care or support worker.

This info is for people applying to be adopters, fosters or Lora's Luck Team Members (volunteers)

While we do have a good social media presence, you are much likely to get hold of us faster if you use this contact page! We can talk you through the process, and what you and we need to know during an application in our secure email, where our team will reply from when you use this page to contact us- see below for our opening hours. 

We are also looking for new applications from possible fosters, fundraisers, and social media page and group admins (must go through the same rules, process, vetting and house check process as adopters). Previous adopters are also welcome to apply as an admin too as they already know how we do things. Use the message box below to get connected to your adopter support chat on Skype!

WHAT IS YOUR PROCESS? (The easy version!)

We usually start in secure email no matter if you’re adopting, fostering or volunteering. Our email is open 12-12 four days a week.

However, we understand that some prefer messenger, live chat, being able to make voice notes or use voice to text instead of typing, printing docs on paper, or need help in video or audio form, so we offer those ways to connect to us as well (for online support we use Skype and will help you to connect on there).

If you have ANY problems contacting us by email or filling in the form just fill in the contact box below with the subject HELP AND SUPPORT FOR APPLICATION. We will be happy to offer advice. 

Then, using information you provide, we try and make sure you are matched to the dog that is perfect for your situation and their needs.

If you pass the email chat/application form part of the application, we will send you an invitation to Skype so you can continue your application in a private and secure Skype chat and have your house check on a private and secure Skype video call or in person (location and Covid protocols dependent).

While waiting for your house check you will be added to the Support Chat for that month on the same Skype for updates, hints and tips, and other support from our team and other adopters live four days a week.

3. Read our blogs http://lorasluck.org/blogs they are written for you by our rescue experts and cover all sorts of vital info from medical and legal news to how to welcome and settle your pup! 
4. Use our webform (message button below) or link to our email lorasqueries@outlook.com  IN OPENING HOURS if you want a falser reply, Mondays Thursdays Fridays and Saturdays 12-12. 
5. Please use ADOPT or FOSTER (with dog name and number) or TEAM MEMBER, COMMUNITY STORE and/or FULL MEMBER in your subject line. If you pass the email assessment you will be added to the secure Skype for the second stage of the application- an interview style informal chat for up to 2 weeks, and your house check should you pass this second stage.
6. If you are a first time adopter please say so, and our team will transfer your application to one of our training and behaviour team members to help prep you.

We are entirely non profit and rely 100% on donations so if you don’t get a reply right away please bear with us. We try to reply (when we are open) inside 48 hours, where you will get some starting questions and a link to our blogs https://lorasluck.org/blogs where you can make sure all your doggy knowledge is up to date. Large print versions of these are available too. If you read the blogs first (any blog questions please ask when you apply) this will speed up your application.

House checks do cost us time and are done by experienced LL team members. But one in four house checks fail, due to timewasters. Our checkers spend a minimum of three hours on your check and it usually follows at least a week of consultation in page PM to assess your suitability, all of which is done for free in our own time by volunteers, 12 hours a day 4 days a week. So we suggest (not demand) a good will donation of £20 before a house check, once you have booked and had confirmation from us a date and time, to show you are serious. This would be discounted from any adoption donation you make after a successful application process. We don’t want to force charges on anyone but if people keep using up our application slots then wasting our time we will have little choice, this is why it’s a suggestion only. 

If you don’t read this and the puppies’ albums info first so you know all the info on the dog you’re applying for, we will not be able to start an application process with you. If you can’t find the information please say so when you apply and we will provide a direct link for you as we understand modern tech isn’t for everyone. We offer as much help and support for those with learning and other difficulties as we are an Equity for All organisation. Within reason, lack of computer skills or a disability is no reason to bar someone from having a dog.

MISSION STATEMENT:
Our main focus are the black dogs, who are so often overlooked at rescues and shelters. If we can name them (£1 a name, which goes into a draw to get them named and funded) we can SAVE them! NO NAME = NO CHANCE TO LIVE.
We rescue the dogs OURSELVES, with the aid of a team across the UK and Romania, Serbia and Bosnia. These dogs are ONLY available here and the website, and NOT on any other rescue or selling site.

If you want us to foster a dog for you in the UK first it costs £45 a month for up to 3 months as the pups decompress (for equipment, insurance and other legal costs) plus food costs which vary due to animal size, payable in advance after a successful house check. We advise all first time dog owners, and people with kids and cats unless they were brought up with dogs to go for this option to ensure a successful adoption but a foster will not be arranged (subject to availability) until AFTER A SUCCESSFUL HOUSE CHECK..
We also straight adopt from our small rescues in Romania, Serbia and Bosnia to experienced adopters ONLY, but first time adopters can apply for any pup they feel they fit in any foster placement, UK or abroad.
We offer RBU, house checks and an online support service for all adopters for the lifetime of the dog.,.

Why are we called Lora’s Luck?

We are called Lora’s Luck as she was the girl who started all this off! Eleven years old, saved from a Romanian kill list, and never knew a home, with nobody showing her any interest as their forever dog… now she’s safe and happy at Lora’s Luck HQ. Since then we have saved the lives of over 300 dogs!

On Facebook and other social media we also have various very active PAGES and GROUPS

-one CLOSED group for all fosters, adopters and the trusted rescues we work with (for data protection)

We call our donors and volunteers Aunties and Uncles, and would love to hear from more sponsors for our pups. We run raffles, auction and sell items, run name draws and much more to help our pups in need.

Donations are as low as £1 (to put a name in a pup's draw), £2 or a minimum £3 for a 'ticket' that goes to vaccines, food, neutering and spaying, microchips- and donations of food, toys, treats, blankets and medicines we send out to our fosters and associated small rescues in Romania, Serbia and Bosnia. We keep the donations low so everyone can help out, no matter what their income. You can also sponsor a dog (12 tickets a month) but this is NOT a reserve to adopt though you are welcome to apply of course.
