Dogs and Puppies Available for Adoption or Pull to Foster With Us
At Lora's Luck we’re raising funds to rescue the dogs that need us most.
We scour the kill lists in Romania for dogs for adoption and dog rehoming (which are usually overflowing) and streets, dumps and train tracks to find the little black boys and girls in severe peril.
Please join us by supporting our efforts to make a difference in the lives of these little boys and girls!
£1 gets you a ticket in a pup's name draw and a £3 ticket (minimum donation)
HELPS KEEP THEM ALIVE AND WELL SO YOU CAN ADOPT!
If we don't get donations, there will be NO adoptions possible.
If you want us to pull one to foster (fees and costs apply), or adopt (adoption fee applies), just email us with the reference number of the animal and your questions!
Please note our dedicated email address lorasqueries@outlook.com is your first point of contact. After that you will be added to our Skype chat. Where most of our charity team are and updates are THERE first, the site is only updated twice a week.
HOW TO ADOPT A PUPPY FROM US
How to adopt a dog through us:
Check out our 'Dogs for Foster and Adoption' Below and make a note of the dog/s you love's NAME AND NUMBER then email us lorasqueries@outlook.com
or use this landing platform link to see all our information, social media, forum, application form and how to contact the team
We start the process with the an online or email chat, though we do also have an application form, to see if you’d be a good fit, and if that goes well, help get the house check up and running.
We cater for people with all sorts of disabilities and other challenges that may stand in the way of them adopting a dog from other rescues. All adoption applications are exclusive (one dog, one application at a time) and case-by-case to get the dog the best possible forever home.
THE COST TO YOU
Effective from 01.04.2024, due to Brexit and subsequently increased checks, and DEFRA tests due to brucellosis outbreaks in the UK.
Prices will have to rise because of Brexit and the necessity for two new blood tests in the UK pre travel to ensure we comply with all the new laws coming into place, for brucellosis at the APHA weybridge.
For a look at how much it actually costs to rescue a dog please check out our blog also available in large print pdf format here.

PUPPIES and DOGS To adopt. 'Adoption fee' is £450 (Romania) £525 (Serbia)* **. (See NOTES below)
There are NO HIDDEN EXTRA COSTS, the amount you donate as part of the adoption contract is fixed until further notice, and this donation amount includes VAT by law.
Adopters pay for:
the pup's travel cost (which has increased by 25% due to Brexit and new rules for travelling across the Channel)
the titre test (all dogs in Serbia by law, Romanian dogs who’ve been with us over a year), The SAT brucellosis test done at the APHA UK Weybridge (Romania and Serbia)
legal necessities such as VAT
The rescue pays for/covers/undertakes:Distemper/parvo tests prior to vaccination internal deworming and external spot on against fleas and ticks
Passport, microchip, puppy/dog vaccines and booster
Rabies vaccine and rabies blood test 3 months minimum after the last vaccine date at an approved EU lab
2 Brucellosis tests (once on arrival at rescue and one latest 14 days before they leave)
The ELISA test for Brucellosis at the APHA UK Weybridge http://apha.defra.gov.uk/apha-scientific/services/lab/index.html
Leishmaniasis test
4DX Snap Plus Test
Spay or neuter
Regular vet checks
Socialisation and skills learning for the dogs (obedience, walks on harnesses, play, meeting other dogs, cats, kids and humans of all ages in a variety of home and semi kennel environments- some of our fosters also have access to test with lots of different animals)
their full passport and microchip fully registered in country of origin and in the UK
IPAFFS documents
custom legal ID tag made by us and sent to you
FOUR MONTHS MINIMUM fostering costs which includes insurance (plus food, toys, treats, walking and feeding equipment and so on) so bear in mind four months is the now the MINIMUM you will legally, because of Brexit, have to wait to get a pup from when they first arrive with us in rescue to ensure we can do all the legal vaccines, tests (UK and EU), and neuters all in good time.
NOTES
We have held down our prices for as long as we could since 2021, far longer than other rescues. But the new brucellosis tests that must be done in the UK from the end of April 2024 are expensive and no dog can come to the UK without them.
*For dogs already in the UK before 01.01.2024 in UK foster that are available to adopt the adoption fee is reduced from the old rate before April 2024, to £350, as all the post Brexit charges did not apply, but you MUST check their location map and be in area or prepared to travel to the North West of England/North Wales to meet the dog(s) in their foster home(s). All dogs in Romania and Serbia come directly to your door with live 24/7 advice from your rescue support team- NO
car park or service station meet ups and you should avoid any ‘rescue’ that asks you to leave your home and drive to collect a dog from such a venue that is not an official kennel or rescue/foster residence, with live support from our rescue team throughout.
** To FAST TRACK your UK brucellosis test the fee charged by DEFRA is an extra £75.30 on top of their brucellosis test charges. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/laboratory-test-pricelists It is paid directly to DEFRA and refunded back to you if they are unable to fast track it (they can’t guarantee it). We do our best to ensure there is no rush to get these tests done before they leave so fast tracking usually is not necessary.
The costs for one dog alone would set you back £1000 privately in the UK (not including food, treatment should they get sick, or anything to walk, feed, entertain and care for the dog with), and costs over 65% of this in Romania. We never ask adopters to pay for these costs but of course any donations for their care before they come home to you are very welcome.
FOR THIS WE NEED DONATIONS and without our Aunties and Uncles (donors) all these dogs would be dead. You can become an Auntie or Uncle by using the ‘donate' button at the top of the page (laptops and PCs) or by clicking the three lines and scrolling down the options (phones etc.) We have a non profit shop here on the website where the items you buy help our doggies too, as well as being able to select a donation of your choice. We also have PayPal and bank transfer options for donations. And we have a very active fundraising group on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/lorasauntiesanduncles
For more on recent and accurate spaying and neutering costs alone in the UK check out this late 2023 survey: https:// manypets.com/uk/articles/how-much-does-it-cost-to-neuter
The dogs now WILL NOT leave for their new homes until they are six months old minimum and/or old enough to be neutered (this is a Brexit legal requirement apart from reasons of medical necessity or advanced age, for which they would be certificated as exempt) and as our dogs are in our own foster full homes and semi foster homes NOT huge noisy ‘private fosters’ that are essentially kennels no different from the kill cages they were saved from, or still stuck in grim public ‘shelters’ waiting for direct ‘distance adoptions’ being fed the cheapest food possible, their welfare is already at the highest possible level, apart from not having their forever people yet.
That’s where you come in. You are, as an adopter, involved in this every step of the way from when you first chat to us, with regular updates and plenty of time to ask any and all questions you have. You also get added to the Happy Bus live Skype chat (The Happy Bus is what the dogs travel in to get to their forever homes) once you pass your house check. Then you stay on the chat to watch your baby come home, as well have lots of fun live and interactive quizzes for all the family created by our team to help you do those final preparations for your forever dog.
IMPORTANT For the first TWO days the dog must be in ‘DEFRA quarantine’ and NOT be taken for a walk or let off a lead in the garden when going to the toilet. This is a legal requirement and MUST be done by all adopters else the dog has to be removed from the residence.

Ideal home: A medium but regular activity home with lots of human contact, engagement and Akita compatible training. Due to his breed they often do better as a solo dog but socialisation MUST continue so they don’t get wary of any resident or visiting dog buddies. Any resident dogs would need to be very chilled and confident/used to Akitas. He’s currently ignoring dogs he meets on walks, and goes ‘Akita giddy’ when he sees cats so he seems to like cats! (More cat testing will be done.)

Then we contact the rescue to check her status.
They and we fundraise the £400 fee* (bus fare, VAT and other UK costs) needed to get her on the Happy Bus to the UK and into our care. You are welcome to help with this but what we would need from you is a sponsor, like a Super Auntie or Uncle!
AFTER THAT:
The '*fee' is £400. It is not an 'adoption fee’. it is their 'bus fare’ and legalities we need to ensure are in place while your dog is one the bus.
When you take on a rescue dog
you do not 'own’ them
you haven’t 'bought’ them like you have a pedigree dog
and they are subject to RBU and the rescue’s contract, terms and conditions by law and mutual consent.
Brexit has caused this unavoidable price increase but we are still one of the lowest priced rescues out there.
This ‘fee’ therefore ONLY pays:
travel door to door from the Romanian foster or rescue to the door of the UK foster/adopter
Eurotunnel surcharges
VAT (a post Brexit charge)of £20 on the government set 'value’ of a stray dog of £100)
excise duty and customs agent commission (a post Brexit charge) of £70
UK legal costs (£25)
This does not cover any other vital expenses such as:
UK and Romanian internal travel costs done by our team,
UK and Romanian foster costs,
vaccines,
tests,
vet general health checks,
treatments (such as flea worm and tick medicine),
food, treats, blankets and toys
collars, leads, harnesses, bowls and beds,
neuters and aftercare consultations,
or should they fall ill.
Adopters are welcome to sponsor their dogs at a base cost of £50 while still in Romania or Serbia (includes food and board but not vaccines or any other vet treatment) a month before they come, but few do, and we’d never make that a condition of adopting**
If adopters would like to engage one of our UK fosters being first time adopters and wanting to meet, train and develop a bond with the dog with the foster’s and the rescue’s help and support then this service does cost money.
Our UK Fosters are with the dogs 24/7 and the dogs ate part of the family in their homes with no kennels no cages and no chains.

**People wishing our use foster service in the UK pre adoption will be subject to the listed charges on our fostering page"
The puppy ideally would be with us no more than one month but it can take up to three months to find her her forever home!
The reference would be [PUPPY NAME AND NUMBER] SUPER AUNTIE/UNCLE SPONSOR. The dogs come with NOTHING, not even a toy due to transport regs, so this covers: vet check in the UKID tag (legal requirement)collar (legal requirement)chip transfer fee to the UK (legal requirement)de-flea and wormer (legal requirement)slip lead (legal requirement)ordinary lead groomer visit (basic claws and coat) If you'd like to buy her: a toy, blanket, dog shampoo and other 'doggy' items (see our Amazon wish list http://amzn.eu/5UVLuyJ for more info!) bed, treats or special diet as we transition her from the low quality shelter to food to our top quality raw food (as food is not covered in the basic £70 a month UK foster charge) We have a handy donation page for that too with all these options on!

If you adopt your sponsor girl, the TYPICAL QUESTIONS WE/THE HOUSECHECKER WILL ASK YOU:
Are there kids and if so what age?
How long might the dog be left when at work etc?
How high is the fencing/gate round your garden/yard?
Were you looking for a small or medium dog (we do focus on some large)?
Have you ever had a dog before? Are there any other pet(s) in your home?
IF YOU RENT, do you have proof your landlord allows dogs?
