LORA'S LUCK WELCOMES YOU

We save, foster and train black death row dogs.

Important Information

Please also note that you need to read the pined posts on our Facebook page and Please take a look at our FAQ Blogs

The 'fee' is £450 (Romanian) or £525 (Serbia)* . It is not an 'adoption fee’. It is their 'bus fare’ and legalities we need to ensure are in place while your dog is one the bus.

When you take on a rescue dog, you do not 'own’ them

you haven’t 'bought’ them like you have a pedigree dog

and they are subject to RBU and the rescue’s contract, terms and conditions by law and mutual consent.

*This bus fare does not cover any other vital expenses such as: UK and Romanian/Serbian internal travel costs done by our team (an extra £100 from Serbia but the rescue goes halves on this), UK and Romanian/Serbian foster costs.

Brexit has caused this unavoidable price increase but we are still one of the lowest priced rescues out there.

This ‘fee’ therefore ONLY pays:

travel door to door from the Romanian foster or rescue to the door of the UK foster/adopter

Eurotunnel surcharges

VAT (a post Brexit charge)of £20 on the government set 'value’ of a stray dog of £100)

excise duty and customs agent commission (a post Brexit charge) of £70

UK legal costs (£25)

This does not cover any other vital expenses such as:

UK and Romanian internal travel costs done by our team,

UK and Romanian foster costs,

vaccines,

tests,

vet general health checks,

treatments (such as flea worm and tick medicine),

food, treats, blankets and toys

collars, leads, harnesses, bowls and beds,

neuters and aftercare consultations,

or should they fall ill.

Adopters are welcome to sponsor their dogs at a base cost of £50 per month while still in Romania or Serbia (includes food and board but not vaccines, any titre tests, spays and neuters, or any other vet treatment) a month before they come, but few do, and we’d never make that a condition of adopting**.

So we rely on donations.

These can be on

PayPal,

Switch,

online banking

or Apple Pay,

or one of our Auntie and Uncle packages in our shop,

or buying some of our products,

or buying a raffle ticket,

or entering the Puppy Name Draws,

or bidding on auctions created by our team to raise funds.

**People wishing our use foster service in the UK pre adoption will be subject to the listed charges on our fostering page"

COVID 19 and Brexit

***COVID 19 UPDATE: YES WE ARE STILL DOING STRAIGHT ADOPTIONS UNDER FULL PPE VIRUS PROTOCOLS.AND FOSTER VISITS ARE DONE OUTSIDE THE HOME IN PUBLIC PARKS WITH SOCIAL DISTANCING IN PLACE.NO TRIPS BEYOND A 30 MILES ROUND TRIP ARE CURRENTLY PERMITTED BY A FOSTER OR A POTENTIAL ADOPTER*** Prices will have to rise because of Brexit and the necessity for two new blood tests to ensure we comply with all the new laws coming into place.

WHAT WE DO

Giving Hope and Paying Lora's Luck forward: saving forgotten dogs one heart at a time! ***DUE TO COVID 19 RESTRICTIONS AND AN INFLUX OF NEW PUPS AND DOGS, THIS WEBSITE IS CURRENTLY UNDER RECONSTRUCTION***Here at Lora's Luck, we are driven by a single goal: To save, train and get dogs who've never known a home ready for their forever homes. Our main focus are the black dogs, who are so often overlooked at rescues and shelters. As this is one-to-one fostering both in the UK and in Romania usually with companion/resident dogs, (we can often but not always 'cat test' and.or 'kid test' but it depends on the individual foster's set up) with no cages, chains or kennels, each dog will need:

  • A legal fostering tag

  • collar and slip lead as well as an ordinary lead

  • fee to transfer the chip to an official vet

  • worming and flea treatment

  • vaccines microchip and passport

  • something to sleep on (duvet, blankets, bed)

  • food (and some treats!)

Total cost is usually about £45 to get the dog started (legal essentials only, no luxuries), £40 per vet check up, £35 per vaccine/health test (bloodwork etc) and £25 a month for food after that.

For those who would like to be a food donor for only £1 A MONTH, you would become the foster's Uncle and Auntie and receive regular updates and photos! For £3 tickets you can also help fund their care and vaccines! We are working with vets, raw food and pet supplies specialists all over the UK and a brilliant small businesses specialising in dog tags, shampoos, beds, collars, leads and harnesses, medicines and tonics for dogs to get them in tip top health and with legal ID; they discount for us BUT they can’t do it for free...So the rest is up to you!Any donations gratefully received! Then we can plan properly to:

  • get more dogs ready to come to us, and our UK and Romanian foster team

  • get dogs out of the kill shelters and sponsored in the rescues so they can be treated and safe while we find fosterers and forever homes.

The dogs can't have any toys or blankets with them when they come due to transporting laws. So the dogs arrive with nothing at all apart from their documents.

But why Lora’s Luck? We are called Lora’s Luck as she was the girl who started all this off, and features in our photo and banner! Nine years old and never knew a home, with nobody showing her any interest as their forever dog… till now.

This site is just for basic promotion. Our FB page is far more active and will provide daily news and updates, LOTS of DOG PICS, items for sale to fund our aims and projects receipts and expenses, drives for funds (sorry!) and of course, when the BIG DAY comes and they find their home for life!We rely 100% on donations. We run name draws at £1 a name to start a puppy's care fund, then their care is split into £3 'tickets' so anyone on any income can help out our pups.

Donations can be for any of the costs rescue and fostering racks up- vet treatments, vaccines, food, toys, treats, blankets, puppy milk and feeders, chips, passports, and of course to help our Romanian associates keep going with foster costs while the dogs are still in Romania as we try and start our in-home service as soon as possible after a pup is rescued. If you want a donation to go to a specific need, just say so in the 'note box' under the donation section on PayPal!

Our fosters all over the UK decompress, settle and start the training for these dogs- and this costs money. The foster set ups are such that a human is almost always in, raw feeding, round the clock love and care, and daily walks, regular check ups and making sure they feel welcome and happy is the goal while they wait for their forever humans to find them.We also have a yearly calendar full of success stories, as well as run raffles, online events, auctions, competitions and are developing a whole range of merchandise from tote bags to hand sanitiser bottles and everything in between! Donations can be done by PayPal or If you'd like to get a gift for a dog or pup here's our Amazon Wish List http://amzn.eu/5UVLuyJ

Opening times

Our message opening hours are 12pm till 12am Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Please take some time and read our FAQ blogs.

Our History

We started off very small. With only one person rescuing little black dogs and puppies from Romania. But now we have grown into a full-blown rescue with an excellent team and have many wonderful dogs for adoptions and puppies for adoption. We are nonprofit and all proceeds go to help saving lives.

ANIMAL RESCUE AND CARE

With this initiative, our goal is to foster dogs in desperate need but in a real home environment- so they have their own collar and lead; blankets (this cuts down on wetting) beds, toys and treats. We never kennel, cage or chain a dog, and we provide FREE round the clock care and training for these little black girls. Learn more about our work by getting in touch with our team today.

LONG TERM PROJECTS

With this plan, our goal is to offer transitional care for dogs who've NEVER been indoors and whose initial needs are very different to the typical no kill shelter dog. Many dogs think they're being 'naughty' or get scared they will be hurt if you try and take them in your home immediately. Our role is to get them used to a REAL home life, so when you adopt, all they need to do is get used to your routines. They will already be: toilet trained, know their names (though puppies react well to a name change by a new owner, older dogs find it harder)know basic commands like sit to be happy, lie down, and not be car sick in vehicles. Dogs from kill shelters can be scared of vehicles at first till they realise they're only going to the park or the odd vet appointment!and how not to pull on or be scared of a lead. Many will have been trained to recall too when outdoors, depending on how long they are with us before being adopted. With access/ planned position in the sun trap in our garden, dogs can decompress safely and when they've settled in, sunbathe and play. The area is currently a wilderness and needs levelling and roofing. It will not be enclosed as we are trying to get them used to no longer being kennelled, caged or chained up.Other long term projects planned for our foster dogs: Short Breaks and Holidays, Meet Ups and Networking. Advice Lines via our FREE live chat. Auctions and Special Events for Funds. Creating good links with other rescues, suppliers and donors. Becoming a lost dog status checker.

Our Mission

At Lora's Luck, we save, train and get dogs who've never known a home ready for their forever homes.

Our main focus are the black dogs, who are so often overlooked at rescues and shelters, and are the first to die in the kill shelters.

*NO KENNELS*

*NO CAGES*

*NO CHAINS*

WE NEED YOUR HELP

VETERINARY SERVICES

With our organisation’s mission always in mind, we strive to find donors to help with basic veterinary treatment. The rescues we work with do cover emergency vet care but every little helps! Basic care includes general health checks and grooming (teeth, claws, coat.)Veterinary Services are something that we take very seriously in order to provide the best care for each dog. Contact us to help fund this with us, and learn more about our commitment to this cause.

ANIMAL SHELTERS

At Lora's Luck, we work closely with many rescues who are on the front line, pulling dogs on death row, about to be killed! They are NOT FED OR VACCINATED and are left in gasping piles to die if they get sick. We help by funding the pull fee and sponsor for the next dog but as we foster 1-2-1, sometimes they have to spend a while in one of our trusted NO KILL shelters where they are fed, vaccinated and spayed. Then once the foster we have has a forever home, we fundraise to get the next one here and in a real home.Animal shelters have a hard job, but through cooperation and community empowerment we believe we can help them make more a difference to these dogs lives. All we need is for you to please lend your support!

The last hope for black death row dogs. Paying Lora's luck forward. Saving the forgotten girls

We are Lora’s Luck, a non profit full cradle to the grave free at the point of first contact and use rescue foster and adoption service for black dogs in need. We have the opportunity to obtain by leasehold an amazing piece of secure coastal land in South Wales with private beach access to start putting the next stage of our plan in place- a first-in-the-world dog friendly support, educational, leisure, retail and entertainment complex! If there’s nowhere to take your dog where they are welcome, and safe to go for a walk, in the light of a frightening increase in the number of dog thefts, at prices that are affordable, what quality of life is that for your dog(s) or you and your family?

For Lora’s Luck Community Hub

TRULY Dog friendly and fully accessible:

A community hub, where people and their pups can drop in for a chat, check out the shops, grab a full English (or should that be Welsh?!) or a cuppa and cake in the cafe/ food market, pick up top quality locally produced groceries and other ethical products for dogs and humans, go on dog safe walks across the fields and beach (including walking groups) and maybe try a course or two, hold their community meetings, need doggy daycare, or training, come to one of our dog shows and fayres, run or get involved in an art, crafts, performing arts, IT or other workshop, tend the community garden or chill out in the community library- whatever would make it a relaxing and fulfilling experience for you, your family and your dog(s).There is enough land to also have the most peaceful and secluded dog friendly picnics, and even beach days out.

and

Lora’s Lodges

TRULY dog friendly short stays and longer vacations.

Is there any such thing as a truly dog friendly holiday? In our experience no. They can’t go on the furniture, or upstairs, or ever allowed off lead in the grounds. And god forbid they bark too much in a strange place or have a toilet accident indoors! High extra deposits and charges for pets often price a holiday out for people who’d like to take their pup on holiday with them. Here there will be no such restrictions as all holiday rents will be fully dog friendly by default, and if your dog’s not off lead ready yet, even help you train your pup! The land is completely fenced in to the highest standard and not only does the land have great open fields, but it also has it’s own little beach and woods in a perfect location on the South Wales coast between lots of great tourist attractions along the coast and Brecon Beacons National Park which is an Area of Natural Beauty just a few miles north, there will be all sort of holiday options to try out!

This is why it’s perfect for truly dog friendly aires, camping, apartments for holidays, and so much morel

But we need funds!

With everything both full accessibility and dog focused, we feel this is our chance to offer our unique ‘dog friendly’ place: safe and secure with views to die for and a base to explore South Wales, but also should you want to, to get more involved with Lora’s Luck and what we do in all aspects of the organisation (no obligation). For more on our mission statement, structure, and how to get more involved please check out BLOG

More discounts and offers can be added the more successful this fundraiser is.

WHAT DO WE NEED RIGHT NOW:

We need £100,000 (gulp!) from this crowdfunder to submit our proposal, to get started and expect to be self funding should our bid be successful from all the projects on site and online within 2 years. Donations start at just £3. It can be a one off or regular donation.

Community funding by the government is at an all time low, and we’ve waited nearly three years with no help or support. We are a non profit, so every penny of the proceeds not used to maintain the site will continue to go to help our dogs still in rescue that are still in desperate need, and looking for their forever humans.

Please donate if you can, and share!

If 33,333 people all gave just £3 one time, we’d have what we need to make this a reality and start setting up!

If 10,000 people gave £10 a month we’d be set up for the lifetime of our and all rescue dogs and their adopters! (And don’t forget the free annual all inclusive holiday draw as well as increasing the likelihood we could set one of these up in your area

every time we hit this target!)

We would like to offer accessibility for our adopters, and all dog adopters all over the UK, including those deemed as vulnerable- on lower income, or with disabilities (hidden or visible), or the elderly, or live alone, to these good value and friendly services as well as a chance to stay connected with like minded people. We have seen through Covid how these groups in particular have been especially isolated so creating a social hub for individuals and community groups all united through their love of dogs and we would like to do our bit not just to help our dogs after adoption, but all dogs and their humans! And the land itself already has wheelchair friendly paths and access roads.

Investors also welcome who are interested in supporting a unique community project. Vets, behaviourists, accountants, insurers, banking services, lawyers, plumbers, electricians, retailers, human doctors …any aspect of life that affects our adopters; all welcome if you are dog focused and want to help us campaign and spread awareness of the law and good veterinary practice for rescue animals and help us push for much needed change, or offer your services to our retailers virtually or on site - or just want to help out a non profit?

Please help save a dog’s life today and donate! The quicker we can get this set up, the more we can help our dogs and pups still in rescue and the ones we find every day dumped in the road or thrown into kill cages…

Just £3 will make such a difference to the lives of all dogs and their adopters. Please donate, enter our holiday draw if you can, and share our fundraiser!

Our crowdfunder can be found here

where they have set the minimum donation to £10.
